Laptops for Women

Women make this world beautiful and worth living. In other words, they are the colour and essence of this universe we live in. They have a different (and more colourful) choice when it comes to anything at all. This does not imply that they never go for the decent hues; women choose their colours very nicely. There are certain colours and shades which are specific for certain gender; like blue for men and pink for women! Though women go for regular gadgets usually, they secretly desire for gadgets that look feminine specifically designed for women.

Laptops for Women

As far as laptops and netbooks are concerned, I have always felt that these machines seem more womanly than any other gadgets (I am unable to explain why I think so)! This is why some manufacturers are designing notebooks solely for women and girls, so that they go with each other more perfectly. HP, x2, Sony, Samsung and Hi-Grade are few manufacturers that have designed laptops that are feminine, colourful and even funky (For teenage girls.)

In this article, I have decided to tell you about certain laptops that are specifically designed for women. It is for you to read if you are a woman; and also for you if you are a man who wants to give a nice tech gift to his wife, daughter, sister or mother.

1. Samsung Q30 (Red):

As the title suggests, this laptop is red in colour. It has specifically been made for the female consumers, keeping in mind their colour choice and selection. It is a sleek and elegant looking laptop that draws pretty good number of eyes towards itself.

Specs and Features:

This notebook is pretty easy to carry with1.1 kg of weight. I don’t think ladies will be feeling any kind of problem regarding the weight of this stylish red gizmo. Also, it isn’t a huge machine; rather the Q30 is an ultra portable notebook with 12.1 inches WXGA TFT Active Matrix (1280 x 768) display.

It has an Intel Pentium M (Dothan) processor with 512 MB of RAM, which can be extended to a limit of 768 MB. The processor works at a humble speed of 1.2 GHz, which is pretty sufficient for basic browsing and Office tasks. Storage capacity is certainly scarce with 40 GB hard drive installed therein. If you love to download complete seasons of television series (and that too, in High Definition), then mere 40 gigs will annoy you. Get ready for external storage devices; they are easily available out there. You can even get an external hard drive with 1 Terabyte of storage space.

You get a combo optical drive that allows you to write your very own DVDs. Connectivity options include modem, Ethernet, VGA port, 6 pin FireWire and 2 USB ports. Also, there is a 4 in 1 media card reader which allows you to view your external data directly on your Q30’s screen. Unfortunately, no Video Chat Ladies! Samsung didn’t allow the little camera to be inserted above the display screen. To make you smile, let me tell you about the Stereo Speakers that produce 3D sound; perfect for movie watching (Especially those from the Sci-Fi genre).

Microsoft Windows XP Professional operates the whole system. There is a 3 cell battery with Q30 that offers you 3.5 hours of battery backup time. It has a huge price tag of £ 1,775.

Product’s Unique Selling Points:

  • Awesome looks
  • Feminine looking
  • Very light in weight
  • Stereo speakers
  • Nice display screen

Limitations:

  • No webcam
  • Specs and features are not high end
  • Inadequate storage space of hard drive
  • Overly priced
  • Slow RAM

2. Samsung Q40 (Pink):

Yes; first they coloured Q30 red, and now they have dyed Q40 pink!!! I love Samsung for being a woman friendly brand!

Specs and Features:

Most of the specs of Q40 are pretty much similar to those of the above mentioned laptop. First thing that you will notice about Q40 Pink is its slimness! Samsung has excluded the optical drive from the built of Q40 in order to keep the slim and sleek profile of this beautiful looking machine. It is only 1.15 kg heavy; therefore it is certainly “Not” heavy!! Perfect for girls and young women; they won’t face problems while carrying the laptop around.
Looking pretty does not imply dire working at all; here we are talking about a computing device that looks beautiful as well as works pretty nicely. Inside it is present Intel’s Core Solo processing unit having 1.2 GHz processing speed. RAM is 512 MB; something that is not commendable, in my opinion. Again you will face the less storage space issue with 60 GB hard drive.

As I have written earlier, the optical drive is missing in order to maintain the slimness of Samsung Q40. To compensate the problem, you are given an external DVD Writer. It has a 12.1 inches wide screen display. Other main features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FireWire, 5 in 1 media card reader, 2 USB ports and a decent 3.5 hours of battery backup time (which can further be enhanced to 7 hours with extended battery).

Product’s Unique Selling Points:

  • Slim profile
  • Very attractive looking
  • Light in weight
  • Bluetooth
  • Wi-Fi

Limitations:

  • Slow RAM
  • Scant storage capacity

3. HP Mini 210 Vivienne Tam Edition:

HP has been making some very attractive and uniquely stylish laptops lately; Mini 210 Vivienne Tam Edition is of those. It is a beautiful looking netbook with eye catching design on the lid and nice specs.

Specs and Features:

You are going to love this netbook the moment you will see it! There is a soft brownish background on the lid with 3 striking butterflies. Young girls are going to adore the butterfly art; HP has been quite intelligent in introducing this pattern.

It has been designed by Vivienne Tam who was born in China. She then moved to Hong Kong and then to New York after graduating from Hong Kong. Her relation with China is portrayed in this beautiful design which is based on classic Chinese love story “Butterfly Lovers.”
Let us talk about the specs, now. As it is a netbook, therefore we can see a 10.1 inches WSVGA LED widescreen display with 1024 x 600 resolution. Intel Atom N450 processor with 1.66 GHz speed runs the whole system. OS is the Microsoft Windows 7. There is 2 GB of RAM, which is pretty nice.

This is certainly a beautiful looking netbook, but it is pretty out of reach for most of the community. Its price starts at $599.

Product’s Unique Selling Points:

  • Designer made
  • Very attractive
  • 2 GB RAM
  • Microsoft windows 7
  • Nice keyboard
  • Very portable

Limitations:

  • Very expensive

4. HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition:

Here is yet another netbook by HP designed by the talented fashion designer Vivienne Tam. This is a wonderfully designed attention grabbing netbook, all clad in red! I personally loved the design and pattern.

Specs and Features:

This has a 10.2 inches display screen, under 1 inch thickness, Intel Atom 1.6 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM, 16 GB SDD and Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. Also, there is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Exterior of the laptop as well as the interior is really pretty; you will see red everywhere. The lid is decorated with a beautiful tone of red embellished with flowers in soft colours. Inside, you see a 10.2 inches display screen and an all-red keyboard, touch pad and palm rest.
Worst thing about this computer is the price; its price begins at $699.99.

Product’s Unique Selling Points:

  • Beautiful design and colour
  • Red inside
  • Nic keyboard

Limitations:

  • Very expensive
  • Very limited storage capacity

5. HP Mini 210-1199 DX:

Here we have another little computing machine in pink and purple pattern on the lid. HP is giving tough competition to the rival manufacturers when it comes to specifically designed note and net books.

Specs and Features:

As all other netbooks, a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom processor runs this machine with 1GB of DDR2 memory. You get Microsoft Windows 7 Starter (pretty basic) and sufficient storage capacity with 250 GB hard drive. Display screen is a nice little 10.1 inches.

There is a VGA port, an SD card reader, 3 USB ports, headphone/mic jack and no optical drive.
Striking features of this netbook are the design and keyboard. I liked the pattern a lot which is made up of diagonal lines of pink, purple, mauve and white (mainly). The same pattern can be seen on the touch pad which gives a striking contrast with the plain baby pink on the keyboard and the palm rest. Keyboard has nicely spaced pink keys (island style).
Again we face the price issue; it comes for around $380.

Product’s Unique Selling Points:

  • Pretty design
  • Nice keyboard
  • Sufficient storage capacity

Limitations:

  • Pricey
  • Heavy battery

6. HP Mini 110 by Studio Tord Boontje:

This is a netbook which is a personal favourite; because I own it!! Yes, I have this Tord Boontje Edition of HP Mini 110 and I LOVE it!! It is beautiful, it is unique, it works nicely and it has a wonderful keyboard. My whole work is related with web browsing and typing; and it is perfect at least for these two tasks. I play many games on the system, too, and it runs them quite nicely. But certainly, you must not expect high end gaming form the little one!

Specs and Features:

It has been designed by a Dutch industrial designer named Tord Boontje. I will talk about the design later; let us know the standard specs first. It has a typical Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz processing unit, 1 GB DDR2 RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive (though I got one with 250 GB), integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics and Microsoft Windows 7 Starter. Screen size is 10.1 inches. It bothers a little in the beginning (specifically while visiting web pages), but all goes well once you get used to the size.

It is an ultraportable machine; I keep on moving here and there carrying it in my hand and it feels easy to hold; as if I am carrying the latest volume of Black’s Law Dictionary! My model has a 6-cell battery which protrudes out of the bottom under the display screen, giving a slanted position to the base. I like this position as the excess heat is not stored down the netbook. Also, the battery life is nice. With Wi-Fi on and while fully charged, it gives me a battery backup time of almost 4-5 hours. I enjoy playing games nonstop for hours with the Wi-Fi switched off.
It has one VGA port, a single headphone/microphone jack, 3 USB 2.0 ports, a media card reader, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Like every other netbook, there isn’t any optical drive, but you can attach an external DVD drive via the USB ports. You get a basic webcam on top of the display screen. I tried to find out where was the sound coming from, and found that the speakers were placed under the display. Exhausts are under the machine as well as on the side.

Keyboard is the nicest feature of this netbook, after the design. It has flat keys which are very easy to type with. Honestly, keyboard was the main reason behind buying this netbook as my whole work is related to typing. On the other hand, touch pad has a strange form; it is wide but the pretty short (length wise). Also, the mouse buttons have been placed on either side of the touch pad instead of being under it. Arrow keys are also “Very” small and difficult to use. Another thing that I hate about this netbook is its AC adapter, which has a short cord and feels cheap.

Design is the main feature of this limited edition of HP Mini 110. HP with collaboration of Tord Boontje designed the whole machine in floral white patterns. Lid is covered with white colour having patterns of flowers, animals and birds printed by a special process called “HP Imprint 3D.” It gives layers to the design and it seems, somewhat real. Lid also contains the printed names of HP and Studio Tord Boontje. Keyboard, its tray and mouse buttons are all white, whereas the palm rest and touch pad have the floral pattern. It is a very nice looking machine from the outside as well as the inside.

You will have to give around $50 more for this piece than the other netbooks of same specs (but having stale designs and dull colours).

Product’s Unique Selling Points:

  • Adorable design
  • Great keyboard
  • Nice battery life
  • Nice storage capacity

Limitations:

  • Irrationally designed touchpad and mouse buttons
  • Small arrow keys
  • Plastic feel
  • Cheap AC Adapter
  • A bit pricey

7. X2 Stylebook:

This company decided to produce woman-focused laptops and Stylebook was the outcome. This laptop comes in very nice colours with matching bags. Screen size is 12.1 inches. Most of the features are not known yet but it is going to feature Wi-Fi and Instantplay technology that allows accessing multimedia features without booting into the installed OS.

Colour options are pink, blue, lavender, green, silver, white and black. Surprisingly, customers are offered matching carry bags for your laptop that come in Leather, Suede, Microfiber and Faux Crocodile Skin. Certainly interesting, isn’t it?
Price begins at $1,300.
