Asus UX21 is a true MacBook Air alternative

Sometimes Apple releases a device that Windows users can’t help but drool over a little. At the moment, that device has to be the MacBook Air. But we don’t have to wait much longer until it looks a little less sexy next to a true competitor from Asus.
The Asus UX21 is the definition of a sexy and very portable laptop. It only weighs
2.4 pounds, is 17mm thick, has a Core i7 processor inside, and relies on a SATA-III SSD drive for storage. Although super thin, it still manages to offer up a USB 3.0 port, DisplayPort, headphones out, and HDMI out. When opened you find a metal chiclet keyboard and large glass trackpad.
In terms of looks, the Asus UX21 has an aluminum exterior with different anodized shades for the base and lid. The screen looks to be either 11- or 13-inches, but we suspect both will be offered. I’m hoping for a 15.6-inch model too.
The one downside we can see so far is a battery that cannot be removed, but to get such a thin machine that’s a compromise you most likely have to accept. In terms of battery life, we have no clue other than it is expected to last a week in standby mode. If it gets 5-8 hours during general use I think most people would be happy.
Engadget managed to capture a video of the Asus UX21 running during Computex 2011 which you can view below. We can expect a release to happen sometime in September with a premium price attached no doubt.
